AVBOB COMMITMENT
The AVBOB group acknowledges that the majority of our population, due to the past dispensation, has been denied the opportunity to participate meaningfully in the mainstream economic activities of our country. We therefore believe it is our responsibility to contribute to the promotion of the economic empowerment of previously disadvantaged individuals to ensure the achievement of a better life for all. We are therefore committed to increasing the participation of these individuals in all levels of our business.
We also realize our social responsibility role in nation building and the upliftment of all South Africans. We are therefore committed to economic transformation whereby all South Africans are meaningfully integrated into the economy.
“THE MENTOR” BY WIM DE ROUBAIX
The Mentoris a unique sculpture that embodies the values of care, trust, dependability and authenticity – principles that have been the cornerstone of AVBOB for over a century.
The striking three-meter bronze sculpture depicts two figures (one larger and one smaller) that are connected yet distinct. Sculptor Wim de Roubaix was born in Pretoria in 1951, and his distinctive style brings a sense of timelessness and wisdom to the piece, drawing inspiration from ancient traditions and a rich human heritage.
The sculpture’s larger figure has a protective posture over the smaller one, which represents the spirit of care and guidance – a vital role that AVBOB proudly upholds in society.
The elongated heads of the figures, as explained by De Roubaix, symbolise intellect, while their reverent stance signifies a belief in something greater: a faith beyond reason alone.
The symbolic meaning of this new addition to the AVBOB Head Office also reflects the role of art, which has since time immemorial helped people to better understand humanity. Similarly, AVBOB’s people-centric values have guided the organisation for generations to support the communities in which we operate with great care and humility.
